Final Call for National Partners: WWII Home Front Oral History

Dear colleagues,

Hope that this message finds you well and looking forward to the holiday weekend!

I wanted to be sure to write with one final follow up about The Home Front Project: a World War II oral history initiative based out of Washington College in Maryland.

We've just published a Thanksgiving-attuned post on the American Association of State and Local History that we hope you'll enjoy:

We are also currently in the process of finalizing our national community partners for spring 2018, offering support in collecting and preserving WWII interviews about the American home front experience.

Here's a quick overview of what the program can offer:

  • We will be providing training resources, such as an oral history toolkit and the possibility of hosting a workshop to train students/community members to conduct new interviews.

  • Our student interns will create similar profiles for our partners' interviews as those posted on our project website, which includes indexing and excerpting stories.

  • Finally, our partners will have their interviews preserved in Washington College's public archives and become part of national coverage about the project. Partners will maintain copies of all of the interview materials, so they can utilize them for their own purposes.

We are prepared to work with partners across various institutions and capacities, among them:

  • Historical societies

  • Public libraries

  • Museums

  • Archives

  • Educators of all levels

  • Veterans groups

  • Community centers

  • Retirement facilities

If you have any WWII interviews you might be interested in highlighting/co-depositing or know of any communities that could fit well with this project, please do not hesitate to reach out.

We're excited to share conversations with interested organizations over the next month, as we move towards finalizing our partnerships by the end of the year.

Thanks again for your interest and support! Best wishes and have a happy Thanksgiving -

Erica Fugger
