Ray A. Moore, Amherst College professor of history and Asian languages and civilizations, has passed away. Professor Moore specialized in the history of modern Japan and the American occupation of Japan after World War II. His publications include Partners for Democracy : Crafting the New Japanese State under MacArthur, Oxford University Press, 2002 (with Donald L. Robinson). In 2012 the Japanese government awarded Professor Moore the Order of the Rising Sun for his contributions to US-Japanese friendship.
