“Japanese Literary Nationalism and Brazil, 1908-1941”

In this virtual lecture, Edward Mack (University of Washington) will present a history of the marketplace for Japanese-language literary texts in Brazil prior to World War II and an analysis of the award-winning story "An Age of Speculative Farming" (1932) by Sonobe Takeo. What will they tell us about modern Japanese literature?
