The Fondation France-Japan de l'EHESS is pleased to present its new webinar and to invite you to its first session :

Olympic Games and Global Cities

OGGC Webinar

This monthly meeting of the FFJ aims to question the renewal of the global cities' bids to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games since the 2000s. After London, the Games will be held in Tokyo, Paris and Los Angeles. This trend is part of a growing criticism of the Games, their preparation and their influence on the social, urban and natural environments. However, these global candidate cities also bring with them a change in Olympic urban projects, which are more sober in budgetary and environmental terms.

This Webinar will be held every second Tuesday of the month and will bring together actors in urban studies, Olympic studies and political studies research on the current state of affairs in global Olympic cities.

Videos from the webinar will be available on a research notebook that we will communicate on shortly.

The recovery from the war and pestilence:
Tokyo 1964 and 2020

Professor Hisashi Sanada (University of Tsukuba) will present the state of his research and his arguments on the importance of holding the Games despite the challenging situation. He will remind us that the Games of 1964 were also the Games of reconstruction after the war, as well as Tokyo 2020 was initially the Games of the reconstruction after the earthquake.
