Celebrate Japan Society’s spring exhibition, A Giant Leap: The Transformation of Hasegawa Tōhaku, the first show in the U.S. to focus on the acclaimed 16th-century artistic trailblazer. This lecture by exhibition co-supervisor Prof. Miyeko Murase, Professor Emerita, Columbia University reveals the contemporary relevance of Tōhaku and explores Tōhaku’s dramatic transformation from a provincial upstart to the leading painter of his age. Held in conjunction with Asia Week New York.
