The Center for the Development of Global Leadership Education (GLP) at the University of Tokyo invites applications for a Project teaching faculty. The Center is responsible for the university’s innovative, transdisciplinary undergraduate Global Leadership Education Program (GLP) and the running of its senior division program (Year 3 and 4) called GEfIL (Global Education for Innovation and Leadership). The Center is seeking candidates who will plan, organize and coordinate the teaching of GLP-GEfIL.

1. Position and number of openings
    Project Teaching staff (Project Professor / Project Associate Professor) (fixed term), one

2. Employment Period
    As soon as possible after July 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

3. Contract renewal
  The contract is a yearly contract and renewable for up two times, contingent on the project’s budget and progress as well as on performance review.
  The employment period renewed is until March 31, 2026.

4. Probation Period
     6 months from the date of employment

    The University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus, 7-3-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo

7. Job Description

  1. Development and execution of courses in global education, interdisciplinary approaches, problem-solving and team-working skills, intercultural communication and others, etc. in collaboration with GEfIL Teaching Staff
  2. Planning, organizing and coordinating the teaching of GLP-GEfIL courses (e.g. GEfIL Independent Research Project PHASE1 and Global Leader Lecture Series)
  3. Organization of the GLP-GEfIL Abroad Programs and liaising with international partner institutions; investigating opportunities for joint abroad programs with top-level international universities, and organizing information sessions for students as well as GLP Sponsor (Partner) Companies
  4. Advising students on choice of study abroad programs and/or internships, and supporting them during the application process
  5. Review and research on international collaborative programs with overseas universities
  6. Review and research on GLP-GEfIL learning outcomes; writing annual review report
  7. Any other work related to international education

8. Working Hours
    Based on the Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work (regarded as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day (38 hours and 45minutes per week))
9. Holidays
    Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, the end/beginning of the year (December 29 – January 3).
    * When deemed necessary for GLP-GEfIL’s operations, employees may be required to work on Saturday. In that case, employees may be granted a day off in-lieu.

10. Paid Holidays
    Annual paid holidays and others, determined by the regulations of the University of Tokyo.

11. Salary and Allowances
    The gross salary is JPY 7,200,000 –JPY 10,800,000 per year including performance / achievement allowance.(JPY 600,000 – 900,000 per month)  Commuting allowance (basically up to JPY 55,000 /month)

13. Qualifications
    Applicants are required to have:

  1. Ph.D. or achievements recognized as equivalent to a Ph.D.
  2. Extensive teaching and research experience in English, and communication skills.
    Excellent command of Japanese (spoken for official meetings and written for official documents)
  1. Experience in curriculum development and academic program management
  2. Good understanding of trends in Higher Education around the world.
  3. Strong network with international academics, universities and research institutions

  8. List of the name and contact details (name, affiliation, telephone number, and e-mail address) of referees (minimum 2)
  9. Certificate of final academic qualification and graduation certificates from bachelor degree level (undergraduate)  
     *These certificates to be submitted by only those who have passed the first stage. Please bring them with you to the interview (second stage)

The selection process will consist of two stages.
1) First Stage: Reviewing the submitted application materials.
2) Second Stage: Those who pass the first stage will be invited for an interview and give trial lesson (in person or online), which will take place in April-May, 2023.
* Travel expenses for the interview will not be reimbursed by the University of Tokyo.
* Applicants will be asked to teach a trial lesson in front of the interviewing committee during the interview.
