Ambrosio, Elisa. Francine Giese, Alina Martimyanova and Hans Bjarne Thomsen, eds. China and the West: Reconsidering Chinese Reverse Glass Paintings. De Gruyter:2023 (292 pages, ISBN: 9783110711752 for printed version, ISBN: 9783110711776 for e-book).

In addition to a focus on the Chinese tradition in this art form, it has a wider reach, as it is the first book to deal in depth with the phenomenon of early modern East Asian and Southeast Asian reverse glass paintings, including their connections to the west. My contribution is the chapter on Japanese reverse glass paintings, one of the first in a western language. The publication is open access and can be freely downloaded.
