University of Washington Asian and Global Studies Course Development Grants
for Community College Faculty

The University of Washington’s Asian Studies and Global Studies Centers seek proposals from Community College full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty for the development of a new courserevision of an existing course, or creation of a new course module that incorporates area studies centered on Asia into their curriculum.

Award Categories:

  • Development of new module for an existing course: up to $2,000
  • Complete revision of an existing course: up to $3,000
  • Development of a new course: up to $4,000

Applications that address the following themes are encouraged (but not required): inclusive health and education; environmental justice and climate change; technology, democracy, and security; and migration, displacement, and refugees.

While the grant does not support language classes, faculty from all other disciplines are welcome to apply. Courses or modules must be offered at your current institution before the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

This year’s competition prioritizes proposals that emphasize concrete strategies and plans to address inclusion, equity, and accessibility in a course. Given the recent effects of the global pandemic on teaching, we will particularly privilege courses that demonstrate modularity with respect to online learning and technologies.

Successful applicants will receive the award upon delivery of a revised or new syllabus or module plan and formal confirmation of the quarter and year that the course will be taught. Successful applicants will also be asked to provide a confirmation of course status during the first week of the quarter in which it is taught. This should include information for course enrollment, mode of delivery and other pertinent updates.

Application Deadline: Tuesday, January 31, 2023
