Dear H-SHGAPE Subscribers,
We have a new post on the SHGAPE Blog by Dr. Gloria-Yvonne Williams entitled "Writing a Woman's Life, A Personal Journey." The post explores the similarities between Perry's research on her paternal grandmother, Belle Moskowitz, and Williams' own experience researching her maternal grandmother, Mayme Williams Carney. You can read his post here: https://www.shgape.org/writing-a-womans-life-a-personal-journey/
This is our seventh and final post in our series honoring the late Elisabeth Israels Perry and her work on women's political activism in the GAPE and in the "long Progressive Era." It is a collaboration with the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, which published a roundtable on Perry's last book After the Vote in July 2021. (Subscribers can read it here). Our previous posts were:
- Anya Jabour on Katharine Bemet Davis
- Laurie Kozakiewicz on women in the NYS legislature
- Elizabeth D. Katz on women in the New York judiciary
- Crystal Brandenburgh on Interwar Pacifists
- Adrien Lievin on home-canning demonstration agents
- Melissa R. Klapper on Maternalist Politics
I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make this series a reality. It was such a pleasure to hear about all the ways that Perry's work continues to live on, and is a wonderful reminder of how good research helps connect us to people across time and place.
Best
Chelsea
