SHGAPE TRAVEL GRANTS

For those presenting at the 2022 OAH meeting in Boston on a SHGAPE sponsored or co-sponsored panel: we have travel grants available for graduate students, as well as need-based travel grants for other scholars

OAH Conference Travel Award for Ph.D. Students

This travel award of up to $1,000 is for Ph.D. students who will be presenting at the OAH conference on a SHGAPE sponsored or co-sponsored panel.

Applicants should email the SHGAPE Program Committee chair, Wendy Gamber, at wgamber@indiana.edu, a statement:

  1. Containing the applicant’s name, proposed paper and panel information, and contact information
  2. Affirming that the applicant is currently a Ph.D. student and does not expect to graduate before the OAH conference for which support is being sought
  3. Providing an estimated budget, including travel costs, registration fees, accommodation, and meals and specifying available institutional funds for conference travel.

Deadline:  January 10, 2022

Winners will be selected by the SHGAPE program committee, on the basis of merit, with need factoring in for the funding amount.  The award may be divided among multiple recipients, at the program committee’s discretion.  Recipients of the OAH conference travel award will also receive a ticket to the SHGAPE luncheon, where the award will be presented.  Recipients are required to join SHGAPE if they are not already members.

OAH Conference Travel Grant

This need-based grant of up to $1,000 is for scholars other than Ph.D. students who will be presenting at the OAH conference.

The intention of this grant is to enable contingent faculty and other presenters without personal or institutional resources to participate in SHGAPE sponsored or co-sponsored panels. Applicants should email the SHGAPE Program Committee chair, Wendy Gamber, at wgamber@indiana.edu, a statement:

  1. Containing the applicant’s name, proposed paper and panel information, and contact information
  2. Affirming the need for financial support
  3. Affirming that the applicant does not have an institutional affiliation OR that the applicant’s institution does not pay for conference travel.  If the latter, the applicant should attach a letter from the department chair or comparable individual explaining why there are no departmental or institutional funds to support the applicant’s conference travel
  4. Providing an estimated budget, including travel costs, registration fees, accommodation, and meals, and specifying all available financial support.

Deadline:  January 10, 2022

Winners will be selected by the SHGAPE program committee, on the basis of need and merit.  The award may be divided among multiple recipients, at the program committee’s discretion. Recipients of the OAH conference travel award will also receive a ticket to the SHGAPE luncheon, where the award will be presented.  Travel grant recipients are required to join SHGAPE if they are not already members.
