Dear H-SHGAPE Subscribers
Please head over to the SHGAPE Blog to read our latest blog post, "Britain, the United States, and the Danish West Indies, 1916-17" by Dr. Ben Markham.
In the context of the ongoing First World War that was raging elsewhere, the US purchase of the Danish West Indies—far from the Fronts—might be considered a somewhat marginal event. But as Dr. Ben Markham shows in this post, the purchase was more than simply a financial and territorial transaction. Rather, it revealed the trajectories of three different early-twentieth century empires: those of Denmark, Great Britain and the United States.
Sincerely
Chelsea
