Call for submissions: SHGAPE Vincent P. DeSantis Book Prize

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) announces its biennial competition for the Vincent P. DeSantis Book Prize. The prize is awarded in odd-numbered years for the best book treating any aspect of United States history in the period 1865-1920 published during the two years preceding the year of the award. It must be the author's first book. The prize is given in honor of Vincent P. DeSantis, Emeritus Professor of History, University of Notre Dame, a distinguished historian of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.

Books written in English and published between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2014 are eligible. Authors or their publishers should send a copy of each nominated book to all three members of the prize committee.  The postmark deadline for submission of books is Oct. 31, 2014. For books published between October 1 and December 31, 2014, final page proofs may be substituted, but in such cases, a bound copy of the book must be provided to each committee member. If a book was published during the eligible period but carries a different copyright date, include a letter of explanation with each copy mailed to the committee members.

Please Note: in order to be eligible, the nominated work must be an author's first book.

The postmark date for nominations is: October 31, 2014.

The prize will be awarded at the SHGAPE luncheon held during the Organization of American Historians Annual meeting in St. Louis, April 16-19, 2015. The winner of the prize will receive $500 and a certificate from SHGAPE.

Authors or publishers with an eligible book must mail one copy of each entry (three copies in all), clearly labeled "2015 DeSantis Prize Entry" to:
