Accessible reading on Conspicuous Consumption?

Hello GAPE scholars,

I'm looking for an undergraduate-friendly reading on conspicuous consumption for a new course this fall.  Veblen can be tedious for students, and I'd like to know if anyone might have a suitable alternative they use.  Ideally I'd like something that explains the concept and gives some discussion-friendly examples, such as the manions at Newport, RI.   Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

You may want to consider all or part of Kristin Hoganson's Consumers' Imperium: The Global Production of American Domesticity, 1865-1920.  It's an excellent read and gets at a lot of dimensions of conspicuous consumption (as well as other issues, of course).
