OAH 2023 Panel on "Military Occupation"? Seeking co-panelists

Justin Jackson Discussion

Hello H-World subscribers:

I'm seeking co-panelists to help form a panel on military occupations in U.S. and world history for the 2023 OAH Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, March 30-April 2: https://www.oah.org/meetings-events/meetings-events/call-for-proposals/

I'm about to publish a monograph on the U.S. military occupations of Cuba and the Philippines between 1898-1913, and could develop a paper on that topic or something else related to my current research project, a history of military occupation as a problem in U.S. and world history, from 1776 to the present. Panelists who also consider the history of U.S. occupations from non-U.S., non-American perspectives would be especially welcome.

Panelists who may want to organize something other than the customary "paper presentation" format are also welcome, e.g., organizing a lightning round, pre-circulated paper, panel discussion, or roundtable discussion, etc.

Given that it's the OAH, presumably papers would focus specifically on U.S. military occupations, but comparative history that includes attention to one or more U.S. occupations may also generate a good panel going beyond an exclusively Americanist focus. If you're interested, please contact me at jjackson@simons-rock.edu. The deadline for submitting proposals is February 1, 2022.
