NAVSA 2019: MEDIA. GENRE. THE GENERIC.
OCTOBER 17-19, 2019
"Media, Genre, and the Generic" invites all scholars of the Victorian period: historians, literary critics, art historians, media historians, and more. Our keynote speakers will be film director Mike Leigh, whose most recent work is Peterloo (2018), and historian Priya Satia, author of Empire of Guns: The Violent Making of the Industrial Revolution (2018). The annual NAVSA conference hosts a caucus (Vcologies) devoted to environmental narratives, histories, and legacies of the Victorian period. We are eager to include a variety of perspectives on this topic.
We welcome proposals directly on the conference theme. Alternatively, we offer the theme itself as generic: the conference is open-call on any topic, as long as it is conducive to a short presentation. Submit on any area of research, teaching, or project-building (collaborative, creative, and/or public) that would be of interest to Victorianist scholars.
