Applications are invited for a funded PhD studentship at the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics, Queen’s University Belfast, addressing the broad theme of environmental history.
Potential candidates for the studentship are invited to submit research proposals of approximately 750–1,000 words on environmental history topics. One fully funded PhD studentship is available for a successful candidate. Applicants must meet the funding criteria set out by the Northern Ireland Department for Economy, including the three-year residency in the UK prior to starting the PhD:
- The studentship is intended for a project on environmental history in the modern period (1700–present).
- We are open to diverse approaches and methodologies, and there is no limitation on the geographical scope. However, projects that involve Irish case studies will be particularly welcomed.
- Students from any disciplinary background may apply. The successful applicant will join the history section of the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and Politics, Queen’s University Belfast.
In the proposal, the primary sources and methodology should be clearly articulated, and the proposed project needs to be located within the existing secondary literature on the subject. The application deadline is 28 February 2023.
This project will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Hiroki Shin and an appropriate joint or second supervisor in Queen’s University Belfast'. Please direct inquiries to h.shin@qub.ac.uk.
