Conference: Connected Central European Worlds, 1500-1700

Friday 30th June - Saturday 1st July 2023 | University of Kent, UK, and online.

A two-day conference to examine how the complex transcultural nature of Central and Eastern Europe was co-shaped, fostered, and reimagined by artefacts, materials and visual culture, from food to art and clothing to weapons. Home to Slavic, Germanic, Latin, Baltic, Finno-Ugric, and Turkic peoples, Central and Eastern Europe sat astride a network of commercial routes, cultural interactions, and demographic flows that turned it into one of the most entangled regions of the early modern world. Papers explore this multiconfessional, multiethnic, and multilingual realm as a crossroads of cultures. Full programme here

Postgraduate/early-career bursaries available for conference attendance in return for help with blogging and social media. Apply via registration link.
