Readers of H-Ethnic might be interested in the latest addition to the American Childhoods feature on H-Amstdy. In the post, titled "Leisure Time of Girls in a 'Little Italy'," Lisa Rabin unearths a 1929 PhD thesis on movie viewing habits of Italian-American teenage girls in East Harlem in the 1920's. She explores the girls' stated interests in identiy and ambition in watching and attending movies in this largely Italian immigrant neigborhood, and the role of cinema in new immigrant identiy formation.
