Book Channel readers interested in scholarly communications may want to take a look at a new initiative to highlight high-quality library and information science research, particularly open access research, on the open access overlay journal The Idealis (theidealis.org).

The journal, developed by a group of US-based librarians and open access activists and launched today, is curated by a team of community editors and can be accessed on the website or by subscribing via email, Twitter, or RSS. The site is also planning to add a "low barrier" open peer review component to the annotated research shared on the site, so readers can rate works based on a set of simple review criteria.
