Be part of the inaugural Oral History Summer Institute at the Centre for Oral History & Tradition!
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-3:45PM (MDT), May 4-June 10, 2021
Where: In line with best safety practices during the COIVD-19 pandemic, the 2021 Oral History Summer Institute will be held virtually.
Course Description: The Summer Institute is designed for participants to get hands-on experience with oral history project design, recording technology, and interview techniques. Whether you are starting your first oral history project, or you are ready to enhance your skills as an oral history interviewer, the Summer Institute’s combination of instructional, workshop, and feedback sessions has something to offer participants at a variety of levels and interests. The Institute welcomes researchers, community organizers, students, academics, genealogists, public/community historians, and anyone interested in oral history. Participants will meet weekly, learn about oral history methods and theories, workshop practical oral history skills, and hear from practising oral historians and esteemed guest speakers. The Summer Institute is also designed for participants to get feedback on interview questions, consent forms, project organization, and many other features that are part of conducting oral history. The Centre for Oral History and Tradition Indigenous Student Summer Institute Award aims to support students interested in oral history research. The award covers tuition for one Indigenous community member taking the course.
