Fully-funded PhD and MPhil places available in the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry at Australian Catholic University.

Applications to the PhD and MPhil programs are now open for domestic and international Higher Degree Research candidates commencing in 2021. Australian Catholic University is an outstanding venue in the study of humanities and national leader in theology and religious studies, with exceptional international links and opportunities to research with our international partner institutions. Higher Degree Research students are an integral part of our scholarly community and intellectual vision.

We welcome proposed research topics that align with the IRCI’s areas of expertise in classics, New Testament studies, late antiquity and Byzantium, medieval and early modern studies, and religion and theology. For more detail on the IRCI’s research, including dynamic new research projects with additional PhD places, see: https://www.acu.edu.au/research/our-research-institutes/institute-for-religion-and-critical-inquiry

Successful applicants will be fully immersed in the intellectual life of the Institute, at ACU’s St. Patrick’s Campus in Melbourne, participating in seminars, conferences, and reading groups, and working collaboratively with our team of world-class scholars across our research programs. ACU’s Rome Campus also provides additional opportunities for international research events and fieldwork.

Successful applicants may be eligible for financial support through one of the University’s competitive research scholarships. Financial support includes a stipend scholarship, a fees-offset scholarship or a tuition fee waiver (as appropriate); international students may also be eligible for Single Coverage Overseas HealthCare.

For more information, contact: hdr.irci@acu.edu.au. The next round of applications for PhD and MPhil courses closes at 11.59pm on Monday 26 April 2021 (AEST). Due to current Australian government restrictions on international student arrivals as part of the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, students from countries other than Australia and New Zealand may not be able to commence during 2021.
