"This Is America": American Studies Association Queen's University Belfast Conference (In-person/Virtual)
The American Studies Association at Queen's University Belfast is a student-led society for students who either study or are interested in subjects focused on the United States.
Past virtual conferences include "Truthsgiving: An Online Seminar on Indigenous/ Native American Scholarship and Activism" and "Theirstory: An Online Seminar on LGBTQIA+ Scholarship and Activism."
The society plans to present an inclusive snapshot of the modern-day U. S. through the "This Is America" Conference. We hope to have a variety of disciplines and academic levels (student, early-career, independent, and professional academic) to produce a diverse and comprehensive understanding of the U.S
This will be a blended event, those based at Queen's University Belfast or close by will present in person, and those based internationally will present online via Zoom. The event is planned for late March - early April (The date will be confirmed in the New Year). We want as many disciplines and subjects represented. Themes include but are not limited to: Music, Art, Fashion, Food, Media, Sport, History, Politics, Economics, Popular Culture, Literature, Film, TV, Memory and Commemoration, Geography, Wildlife, Agriculture, Architecture, etc. We welcome any subject as long as it pertains to the modern U. S or how it was developed.
Each speaker will have twenty minutes to present followed by a Q&A section, either as part of a panel or individually.
If you are interested, please email a 250-word abstract and CV to americanstudies@qub.ac.uk by 5 pm (UK time) on February 1st, 2023. Please indicate if you intend to present in person or virtually in your submission.
