Extended Deadline! Northern Illinois University Graduate Student Conference
We are pleased to announce the 8th Annual History Graduate Student Conference, sponsored by the Department of History at Northern Illinois University, to be held in DeKalb, Illinois on Friday, 6 November 2015. Participants will present their work in a collegial academic setting, and meet future colleagues from other institutions presenting research on a variety of historical fields.
We are especially excited and proud to announce that Professor Mark Philip Bradley of the University of Chicago will deliver the keynote address. Professor Bradley is the author of Imagining Vietnam and America: The Making of Postcolonial Vietnam, which won the Harry J. Benda Prize from the Association of Asian Studies. He will speak on the importance of history in contemporary understandings of global human rights.
History graduate students (MA. and Ph.D.) are invited to submit proposals to present individual research papers or panel proposals of 2-3 presenters. While participants are encouraged to address the theme “Past in the Present,” we welcome submissions focused on any historical subject. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words. Please submit proposals to niuhistorygsa@gmail.com no later than Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Presentations should be between 15 and 20 minutes long.
Individual proposals should include submitter’s name, contact information, institutional affiliation(s), a 250-300 word abstract of the paper (with a title), and a brief biographical statement indicating your academic status along with a return address and current e-mail address. Panel proposals for two or three presenters are also encouraged and should include the above, as well as a brief description of the panel itself. Please note that submissions will be accepted as time and space permit.
Please address any inquiries to Katrina Chludzinski (niuhistorygsa@gmail.com), Conference Chair and Organizer. Registration and program information will be sent in late September.
