ASLH Panel: IP Law / US law norms spreading abroad

Douglas OReagan Discussion

I'm interested in putting together a roundtable / panel for ASLH based loosely around IP law and/or the export of US norms to other countries in the 20th century. My project is essentially a history of trade secrecy, and one chapter will look at how American concepts of know-how / trade secrets spread to other nations (both developing and developed). I'm fine with changing the binding theme if there are other projects out there for which this would be a decent fit. Some other themes I could tailor this to touch on: industrial espionage and Cold War influence on law; employee mobility and innovation; and/or the mutual shaping of business practices and the legal bases for them.

If more info on my project is useful, I'd be branching off of this article that just came out in Technology & Culture:

Anyone interested, please get in touch ASAP so we can sort it out before Wednesday's deadline! I'm generally fond of roundtables, but could write out a full paper if that's preferable. My email address is oreagan@gmail.com.

Thanks,
