Death row in the world?

Simon Grivet's picture

Dear all,

After having spent several years studying the history of capital punishment in the US (esp. in California), I'm hoping to begin a new project which would put the American death row experience in a global perspective.

hence my call for help to other scholars: do you know of any studies mentioning pre execution detention in any other countries but the United States in the 20th or 21st century?

Thank you very much for your help!

For Canada, Ken Leyton-Brown's The Practice of Execution in Canada (Vancouver: UBC Press, 2010), has several chapters on the interval from sentencing to execution, during the period from Confederation in 1867 until the abolition of capital punishment in 1962.
Best wishes,
