Forbidden Fruit

Dear H-Albion,

Like many of you, I am at home, trying to stay sane. At the moment I am trawling through 19th century newspapers, and have come across an advert in the Morning Chronicle of 8 October 1817 for preserved and dried fruits for Christmas. Amongst the delicacies on sale was "Forbidden Fruit". Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Maybe some sort of dried apple? All suggestions gratefully received

isn't it a fruit in the citrus family?
