NACBS 2018 Panel: Consumption, Temperance, Social Control

Sarah Cook's picture

I'm looking to put together a panel for NACBS in October. My paper will deal with coffee houses and coffee taverns in London in the late nineteenth century, and the relationship between such spaces and the temperance movement. I'm still fleshing out the details of my own paper, and am therefore flexible on the actual direction of the panel. My subject matter touches on the history of consumption, social control movements, and issues of class in social spaces, so there is great potential for putting together a great interdisciplinary panel on a variety of topics.
