Alumni Presentation by Max Peterson
Originally from New Hampshire, Max Peterson is an oral historian who lives and works in Washington, DC. Max studied history and African American studies at Boston University (CAS '16), and he recently earned a master's degree in oral history from Columbia University. Max co-teaches Real World History, an after-school history course available to high schoolers in DC public schools, and is the oral history assistant at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Max's OHMA thesis was an investigation of the Great Migration Oral History project he co-teaches in the Real World History program. In his thesis, he traces the origins and development of the program, examines the collection of student oral histories for both their contribution to the study of the Great Migration and their intergenerational intersubjectivity, and outlines a redesign for the class's oral history project.
Prospective students are also welcome to meet with the OHMA director, Dr. Amy Starecheski. Please send us an email (ohma@columbia.edu) to connect. You can find additional information about applying to the program here.
