Redacting Names in LGBTQ Interviews

The Red River Rainbow Seniors (Fargo) oral history project, "Breaking Barriers: Harvesting LGBTQ Stories from the Northern Plains" has interviewed over 50 people, most of whom are over 55 years old. As these interviews are being transcribed, we are struggling with questions about redacting names of individuals who are identified in the interviews, but who are not out. In the transcriptions, we are currently redacting the names people who have been interviewed and who do not want their interviews released without their permission. That's just over 10% of our interviews. The most problematic area for us are those people who may be still alive and whom we don't know how to contact.
