Igor Golomstock (1939-2017
Igor and I first met about 40 years ago and quickly became friends. I am in debt to him in many ways. Amongst much else, it was he who first encouraged me to translate some of Varlam Shalamov's stories and - a few years later - Vasily Grossman's LIFE AND FATE.
