Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to our panel "Between Prague and Paris: The Czech Artist Toyen and Collaborative Avant-Garde Practice" that will take place on Tuesday, November 26, between 12:00 to 1:45pm (San Francisco Marriott Marquis, Floor: 2, Foothill C).

Our panel will focus on Toyen, an important figure in the history of Czech and French Surrealism and the only female artist in the 1920s Czech avant-garde group Devětsil. We will address a range of collaborative projects emerging from Toyen's experience in the Parisian artistic milieu to illuminate broader concerns related to the avant-garde’s belief in artistic collaboration and transnational exchange.

Chair: Ana Berdinskikh (Yale University)
