The aim of the Emerging Voices for Animals in Tourism (EVAT) conference is to highlight and celebrate fresh perspectives and new voices in animal tourism. We therefore invite 5 minute (pre-recorded) lightning talks from emerging scholars (i.e. current undergraduate and graduate students and postgraduates within five years since completion of doctoral studies) which explore the experiences of animals in tourism.  Examples may include but are not limited to:

  • food tourism
  • art
  • passive entertainment
  • active entertainment
  • transportation and recreation
  • educational tourism
  • sport and racing
  • animals as photo props
  • liminal animals at tourist sites
  • volunteer tourism (sanctuaries, wildlife reserves and zoos)

Overall, it is our aim that our conference will be grounded in progressive and innovative praxis where ongoing collaborations can be formed through the sharing of emergent voices in academia, advocacy and industry.

To submit an abstract for a lightning talk, please email a 250 word proposal to by January 31.  If accepted, pre-recorded five minutes talks will be due by February 28, 2022.
