CFP REMINDER: Human-Animal Studies Conference (Un)Common Worlds III
The international (Un)Common Worlds III human-animal studies conference will take place in October 4-6 2023 at the University of Oulu with the theme “Navigating and Inhabiting Biodiverse Anthropocenes”. The call for papers is in full swing – don’t forget to send your abstract by May 31st!
- The conference team is proud to announce that the confirmed keynote speakers of the conference are professor Jaana Erkkilä-Hill (visual arts, University of the Arts Helsinki), professor Naomi Sykes (archaeology, Exeter University), and professor Ang Bartram (Contemporary Art [Arts research], University of Derby).
- In addition to the scholarly programme, the conference will host an on-site art exhibition with five Finnish artists.
(Un)Common Worlds III encourages scholars and artists across disciplines to submit individual or working group proposals that engage critically with ongoing environmental crises and existing framings – be they global ones such as climate change, the Anthropocene or the loss of biodiversity, or more local and situated conflicts arising from particular ways of perceiving animals and non-human life in our communities and societies.
Submit your abstract (max. 250 words) to uncommonworlds3@ykes.org (preferably as a word doc or a pdf file with the word “abstract” in the subject field of the e-mail). Remember to add a title for your presentation as well as your name and affiliation and contact information. Add to the abstract if the paper will be presented in-person or online.
