CALL FOR ESSAYS

I am putting together an edited collection to be published by Cambridge
Scholars Publishing called Egypt: Discourses of Travel, Exploration, and
European Power from 1798 to 1956 (or from Napoleon to Nasser) and I
would like to invite you to consider submitting one or more chapters.

Here is the abstract/call for the Collection:

The book will offer a series of chapters analysing representations of
Egypt from the varying Orientalising perspectives of English and French
travellers, novelists, scientists, artists, archaeologists, and imperial
administrators from Napoleon's Egyptian Expedition to the end of the
period of British influence in 1956.

About the Editor

Valerie Kennedy has published on Orientalism and on nineteenth- to
twenty-first century British and world literature and travel writing.
Her Edward Said: A Critical Introduction (Polity, 2000) has been
translated into several languages, including Arabic, Korean, and
Chinese. Her most recent publication, with co-editors Patrick Hart and
Dora Petherbridge, is Henrietta Liston's Travels: The Turkish Journals
1812-1820 (Edinburgh University Press, 2020). Current plans include a
monograph on British travellers to the Ottoman Empire.

A Chapter should normally be no longer than 6000 words, and should be
original and previously unpublished. If the work has already been
published (as a journal article, or in conference proceedings, for
example), the Publisher will require evidence that permission to be
re-published has been granted.
