Tourism and History panel proposal for A.H.A.

Bertram Gordon Discussion

Dear H-Travel Colleagues,

As a follow-up to my message of January 25, we have received two proposals for papers for the American Historical Association’s 137th Annual Meeting, which will take place in San Francisco on January 4–7, 2024:

1) how river tourism became a national industry, and the roles that new boats, new guiding companies, and new groups like the American Whitewater Association played in that process

2) War and peace: the image of World War II in the emotional regime of early Thaw Soviet travelogues

If you might be interested in joining this panel as a third presenter, please send me as quickly as possible the title of your proposed paper. If you might like to join as the commentator, let me know that as well. The panel’s theme would be broad: tourism and history. The deadline for proposal submission to the A.H.A. is February 15.

The best email to reach me is: bmgordon@berkeley.edu

Best wishes,
