Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College strives to prepare students for the challenges of the ever-changing global community. Interested applicants should be innovative and entrepreneurial individuals that understand the demands of a global workforce with an emphasis on creative thinking and effective communication.

The Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education at Raritan Valley Community College invites applications for a Full-Time Instructor of World History for the 2023-2024 academic year. We seek candidates with research and teaching experience in the non-Western World, but candidates with any area of expertise in World History will be considered. 

Candidates with training in and ability to teach the history of women and gender in a global context will be given special consideration. The teaching load is five courses per semester and will include introductory courses in early (pre-1500) and modern (15th century to the present) World History.

Additional Position Requirements:

Assist in maintenance, updating, and development of disciplinary curricula.

Demonstrate a commitment to teaching effectiveness and on-going pedagogical professional development, including utilizing innovative technologies as well as skills for teaching in remote modalities.

Demonstrate on-going professional development within the discipline.

Make continued efforts to improve quality of instruction by supervising and collaborating with full-time and adjunct colleagues.

Demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student body and college community.

Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary department which includes serving on college-wide committees that require departmental representation.

Participate in student advising, and provide access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication and other appropriate methods.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in History from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in college-level World History.
  • Demonstrate or be willing to acquire skills necessary for teaching online courses.
  • Demonstrated professional development related to World History.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. preferred.
  • Degree specialization in World History.
  • Experience using technology in the delivery of course content.
  • Prior Community College teaching experience.
  • Online and/or Hybrid teaching experience.
