CALL FOR PROPOSALS
THE 2022 G20 BALI SUMMIT IN FOCUS: INDONESIA ON THE GLOBAL STAGE
UNIVERSITAS WIDYA MATARAM (UWM)
IN COOPERATION WITH NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY (NIU)
YOGYAKARTA, JAVA, INDONESIA
JANUARY 24-25, 2023 (VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON)
On behalf of Universitas Widya Mataram (UWM) and Northern Illinois University (NIU), we are pleased to invite you to “The 2022 G20 Bali Summit in Focus: Indonesia on the Global Stage” academic conference to be held in a hybrid format from January 24-25, 2023, at UWM in Yogyakarta (Jogja), Indonesia. The two-day conference will feature in-person and virtual panels, individual paper presentations, and roundtable sessions. This conference encourages scholars to display pertinent, insightful perspectives that add further context to the G20’s major talking points with the aim of subsequent journal publication.
The conference seeks individual paper, organized panels, and roundtable session proposals from scholars whose research and expertise expound upon the three main pillars of interest concerning Indonesia and the world at the 2022 G20 Summit: Global Health Architecture, Sustainable Energy Transition, and Digital Transformation. We welcome proposals/abstracts from scholars spanning the humanities, the health sciences, the social sciences, environmental science, and the digital technologies field to enhance and diversify the perspectives and dialogue of the conference. We seek to publish peer reviewed papers from this conference in an edited volume.
Background: The 17th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit occurs in November 2022 in Bali with Indonesia serving as this year’s G20 President. The G20 Bali Summit witnesses Indonesia as a rising regional power with aspirations of global influence coupled with a substantive voice in directing international affairs as our world incrementally exits the COVID-19 pandemic. As the 2022 G20 motto “Recover Together| Recover Stronger” suggests, how is Indonesia staying on track with its major G20 pillars as it emerges from the pandemic? Did the pandemic temporarily alter, modify, or stymie Indonesia’s national, regional, and global goals, initiatives, and trajectory if only for the short term? Or not? Does the G20 Summit in Bali symbolize Indonesia’s ascension among the twenty most industrialized nations? In short, is the 2022 G20 Bali Summit Indonesia’s coming out moment? These are questions scholars interested in participating in this conference should consider and address when crafting their proposals, abstracts, papers, and panels. We look forward to receiving your proposals!
Proposal/Abstract Submission Deadline: 01 December 2022.
Proposal/Abstract Word Limit: 250 words
