Bryant University invites applications for a non-tenure track position as Lecturer in US history before 1900 and in Public History, beginning August 2022.
This is a one-year, non-tenure track appointment with an opportunity for continual yearly renewal.
The candidate should have the training and experience to teach in at least one of the following areas: African American History; Native North American and Indigenous History; Atlantic World; Colonial North America. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research connect with Rhode Island and/or Southern New England.
Bryant University is a selective, four year, residential university that has academic programs that are distinguished by an integration of the arts and sciences with business. Our innovative academic programs are attuned to the needs of industry and society. Bryant is located in Smithfield, RI, and is 15 minutes northwest of Providence, RI, and one hour south of Boston, MA.
The position is for one year, but may be renewable pending the performance of the candidate and the needs of the university. Expectations include a 4-4 teaching load. Exact courses will depend on the candidate but will include as a minimum: HIS 261 (US to 1877) and HIS 380 (Doing Public History) Providing service to the department and the university are also required.
A Ph.D in History or a closely related field is required. Successful candidates must have a strong teaching background. Certain requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate persons with disabilities.
