I would like to bring to your attention the publication later this month of a new book, Franklina C. Gray: The Grand Tour by the Camron-Stanford House – Oakland’s Victorian House Museum. It is the account of a young and privileged American woman traveling through Europe and the Middle East in the late 19th century and could be useful as a text for a course on the history of tourism and also gender relations regarding travel. I was privileged to write the introduction from which the following paragraph is taken:
