New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance Author Awards 2017

Annually, the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance ( www.njsaa.org ) accepts nominations for materials published in the field of New Jersey studies for its Author Awards.  The awards are meant to recognize works that reflect a new understanding of New Jersey's history and culture, demonstrate evidence of original research in the application of New Jersey resources and/or reveal new insights into a topic.

Friends of the Modern School Annual Gathering

Please join Special Collections and University Archives and Rutgers University Libraries tomorrow as we welcome the 45th annual gathering of the Friends of the Modern School. The Modern School was a democratic school and anarchist community located in the North Stelton area of Piscataway Township from 1915 to 1953.  The gathering will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday October 27, 2017 in the Remigio U. Pane Room.

Friends of the Princeton University Library Research Grants

Each year, the Friends of the Princeton University Library offer short-term Library Research Grants to promote scholarly use of the Library’s special collections. The award is $1,000 per week (up to four weeks) plus transportation costs.

Rutgers' Thomas Frusciano to be presented McDonough Award this Tuesday

Rutgers University Archivist Thomas J. Frusciano will be presented the 2017 Roger H. McDonough Librarianship Award at the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance's meeting this Tuesday, October 24th. The annual award, named for New Jersey State Librarian McDonough, has been given since 2002 to a librarian, archivist, or manuscript curator for excellence in service to the New Jersey history research community and general public. The award presentation will take place at 3 pm in the Pane Room, first floor of Alexander Library, Rutgers-New Brunswick. The event is free and open to the public.

Camp Merritt WWI Centennial Commemoration this Sunday

In this centennial of the US entry into World War I, Bergen County is honoring Camp Merritt -- the largest WWI US Army Embarkation Camp in the nation, where more than 1 million soldiers were lodged on their way to and from the battlefields of Europe. Soldiers that were here included Capt. Harry S. Truman, and 3 Medal of Honor awardees: Sgt. Alvin York, the war's most decorated soldier, Pvt. Thomas Neibaur, the first Mormon to receive the Medal of Honor, and Sgt.
