The Bergen County Historical Society presents Jeffrey B. Perry on "The Invention of the White Race: The Origin of Racial Oppression in Anglo-America."  Saturday June 20, 2015, 10 am at the Ciarco Learning Center, 335 Main Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. “When the first Africans arrived in Virginia in 1619, there were no ‘white’   people there; nor, according to the colonial records, would there be for another sixty years.” Perry discusses Theodore W. Allen’s work—a full-scale challenge to “The Great White Assumption.”  This is the root of a new approach to American history, one that challenges the master narratives we teach.  For more information on Dr. Perry see www.jeffreybperry.net .  For more information on the Bergen County Historical Society see www.bergencountyhistory.org .
