Greetings friends of NJ history,
It is with profound respect for the man and sympathy for his family and loved ones that I record here the passing of Thomas Fleming. A prolific author of works of history, historical fiction and (notably for the case of Jersey City) historical memoir for readers of all ages, Mr. Fleming was a credit to his home city and state. I had the priviledge of attending an event with him in Jersey City not that long ago, and while frail in body his talk was witty and with full command of his extensive knowledge. He was kind and generous in our brief conversation, and in his dealings with the local history department here at Jersey City Free Public Library.
Let us honor a life well lived - all scholars stand on the shoulders of giants, and Thomas Fleming now takes his place in that pantheon.
