There was a recent Slate article that may be of interest as a History teaching resource:
Building upon the Library of Congress' Chronicling America database, the Georgia Tech Research Institute and the University of Georgia's eHistory initiative have created a program that maps historical newspaper stories. The content covers 1836-1922, the same as Chronicling America. Overlapping the Chronicling American information onto a map provides an interesting visualization of the data, and could prove a useful teaching/research tool.The stand-alone website for the can be found Here.
