Why History Matters: American History Teachers Speak Out

Submit an Essay by December 31, 2022.

We’ve selected the first group of original essays that will be included and we’re seeking more to complete the book, so we’ve extended the submission deadline until the end of the year.

Essay Topics:

Current and former teachers of American history to K-16 students are invited to submit original essays up to 1,000 words on one of the two following topics:

Share your insight about why the history of America is important for a student to learn, understand, and appreciate.

Tell a story about how you successfully inspired students and engaged them in the learning of American history and why your approach worked.

 

Submission Criteria:

Signed original content up to 1,000 words on one of two listed prompts above.

Include your name, address, email address, and teaching history (school, district, subjects, years), and any other contact information you’d like to include.

If selected for publication in the book you will be awarded $500 and you agree to speak publicly with media and other entities about your submission.

 

Deadline: Submissions will be evaluated for award and book inclusion on a weekly basis. No submissions will be accepted after December 31, 2022.
