& Utopia
Online public lecture series about utopian thinking and practices in a contemporary world characterized by multiple crises

Lisa Baraitser, Kim Stanley Robinson, Max Haiven, Anne Boyer, Arne de Boever, Sophie Lewis, Françoise Vergès, David M. Bell

During the Fall of 2021 these prominent scholars, intellectuals, activists and writers will explore questions such as: What is the relation between utopia and crisis? How does utopianism offer new routes through or out of the contemporary impasse, and where and why does it lead straight into all too familiar cul-de-sacs? What if utopia is not a political possibility belonging to the past, but an ecological and existential necessity in the present? Who has access to so-called utopian futures and who does not? What happens to our understanding of finance, gender, work, reproduction, ecology, health, protest and poetry, when these issues are put in contact with the question of utopia?

& Utopia is organized by Iben Engelhardt Andersen, Mikkel Krause Frantzen and the research project Utopia without Future, Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Arne De Boever and the MA Aesthetics and Politics program, California Institute of the Arts.
