Please see the letter below for information on the 2021 Jonathan Safran Foer Virtual Visit, a webinar event where Foer discusses issues in industrial agriculture in the contexts of dietary ethics, social justice, and pandemic-related concerns. Please consider this invitation to meet with the critically acclaimed author Jonathan Safran Foer to discuss ethical issues in industrial animal agriculture as featured in his international bestsellers Eating Animals and We are the Weather. Reserve now for the next event on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Limited space is available for this complimentary program.

Set in the context of a larger journey of exploration, Eating Animals presents what many consider the most important popular critique of industrial farming. We are the Weather expands on the environmental dimensions of this important conversation, and Jonathan's recent op-eds in The Guardian, The Washington Post, and The New York Times underscore the critical nature of this discussion in the context of COVID-19 and concerns regarding future pandemics. As part of our broader educational efforts, Farm Forward, a national nonprofit organization, is covering all costs of this program.

Foer’s first two books, Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, have both been made into major motion pictures and, while highly regarded for their literary merit, are also popular with the college demographic. Eating Animals has also recently been adapted into a major documentary. Produced by Natalie Portman and directed by Christopher Quinn, the documentary premiered to widespread acclaim at the 2017 Telluride Film Festival.

Kirkus Reviews called Foer's Eating Animals “wholly compelling” and the LA Times argues that it offers a wisdom “that, in all its humanity and clarity, deserves a place at the table with our greatest philosophers.” In recent years both Duke University and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill made it required reading for their incoming freshman class. The most frequent comment we hear from educators who use Eating Animals is “I’ve never had such great classroom discussion!”

On February 24, 2021, Jonathan Safran Foer will make a number of virtual visits via Zoom to discuss key ethical issues related to industrial animal agriculture. This event is free for all who wish to take part, within and beyond academia. See further details below.

On the day of the event, there will be 4 available sessions to choose from.  Each session will consist of a 10-minute presentation by Foer, followed by a 25-minute Q&A session. While multiple individuals, groups, and classrooms will be included in each time slot, there is limited space and high demand is anticipated. With this in mind, we encourage all who are interested to reserve their spot as soon as possible on the event sign-up page.
