Announcement of the 2019 Bobbie and John Nau Book Prize in American Civil War Era History

The John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia invites nominations for the fourth Bobbie and John Nau Book Prize in American Civil War Era History. Titles published in 2018 will be eligible. The $25,000 prize focuses primarily on scholarship devoted to the war itself but is also open to works on the background and consequences of the conflict.

Espionage & Secrecy (1300-1700): RSA session CFP due 14 August

Do you have an example of Espionage history - including rebellions or betrayals as well as formal military intelligence - from anywhere in the world during the late medieval, renaissance, or enlightenment eras?

Re: Stanton on Newell, 'Operation Goodtime and the Battle of the Treasury Islands, 1943: The World War II Invasion by United States and New Zealand Forces'

As the author of "Operation Goodtime' I would firstly like to thank Margaret Sankey for commissioning the review of my book and for Allyson Stanton for reviewing it.It was my first book on the operations of 3 New Zealand Division fighting alongside American forces in the South Pacific and under overall American command .My other subsequent books are "Vella Lavella","Operation Squarepeg" and "Pacific Star".My intent was to make these operations more well known.They are very much forgotten events in New Zealand history.

2019-2020 Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars' Fellowships

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is announcing the opening of its 2019-2020 Fellowship competition. The Center, located in the heart of Washington, DC, awards approximately 15-20 academic year residential fellowships to academics, practitioners, journalists, former public officials, and independent experts from any country with outstanding project proposals on global issues. The Center welcomes policy-relevant proposals which complement the Center's programming priorities.
