Update for CENFAD Lecture Series: Dr. Allen C. Guelzo, "Robert E. Lee as Confederate Strategist, Tactician, and Logistician"

Casey VanSise Discussion

Please join the Center for the Study of Force and Diplomacy (CENFAD) at Temple University for the first event of the Spring 2022 semester: a lecture and question-and-answer session with Allen C. Guelzo, Senior Research Scholar for the Council of the Humanities, Princeton University. Dr. Guelzo will present on his recently-published book Robert E. Lee: A Life (Knopf, 2021).

In his lecture, Dr. Guelzo examines how Robert E. Lee is best-known for the military skill, but most analysis of his military career in the US Civil War has focused on his dignity, bearing, and personal conduct, rather than on the manner in which he exercised the command responsibilities of strategy, tactics, and operations/logistics. His book focuses on how assessments of Lee have clouded those questions, while opening the questions themselves for examination in Lee's case.

UPDATE: Due to Temple University's recent announcement that classes will be exclusively held online from the start of the Spring 2022 semester until at least Friday, January 21, the Center for the Study of Force and Diplomacy (CENFAD) has opted to make the upcoming event with Dr. Guelzo a Zoom-exclusive webinar rather than a hybrid event with in-person and Zoom attendance options.
