CFP: Between War and Mass Murder II: From Babi Yaar to the Battle of Moscow, WGC 21 October 2021

Boaz Cohen Discussion

The few weeks spanning September and October 1941 saw a spike in mass murder actions against Jews with massacres in Babi Yaar, Ponar, Riga, Kovno and Kamenets Podolsk. It also saw the unleashing of a massive German offensive aimed at Moscow - Operation Typhoon.

The Holocaust Studies Program of the Western Galilee College is inviting proposals for an international conference commemorating this fateful confluence of war and mass murder.

This conference will be a sequel to the “Barbarossa” Conference held in June 2021 and will continue the tradition of the Holocaust Studies Program at Western Galilee College to provide a platform for discourse and advanced research of comparative Military History of the second world war and Holocaust Research.

Applications dealing with the War in the east and the Holocaust in the period August - December 1941 will be considered for this conference. Topics related with the military situation on either side of the battle field are welcome, including diplomatic relations, intelligence reports as well as new research and perspectives regarding the first transports of Reich's Jewry to the killing sites in the east and the beginning of systematic murder taking shape and form of an operational objective set by the SS's Einsatzgruppen squads, Partisan Warfare and Jewish resistance.

The conference will take place online, on a ZOOM platform.
We invite proposals (up to 500 words) & short CVs, both on one page.
Organizing team: Dr. Yaron Pasher, Dr. Daniela Ozacky Stern, Dr. Boaz Cohen.
