Spring Meeting of the Texas Map Society
May 29-30, 2020 in Houston, Texas, USA
Building on Houston’s link to NASA and space exploration, the Texas Map Society is soliciting proposals for papers, 20 minutes in length, that address aspects of geographical discovery and exploration of Texas and the greater Southwest, from the earliest encounters by Europeans to humanity’s slipping Earth’s bonds and boldly going beyond our planetary borders.
The Texas Map Society welcomes submissions on this theme from its members, academics, independent researchers, and especially from graduate students and early-career scholars. Preference will be given to those papers that are aligned with the meeting theme of Exploring Space(s): Discovering Texas and Beyond. However, all proposals of merit will be considered.
Members of the society and meeting attendees are diverse and include map collectors, academics, librarians, archivists, public historians, geographers, and many others. Most members are interested in general exploration and discovery, geography, historical cartography, map production, distribution, and collecting, and related fields, not limited only to Texas.
Paper proposals are due January 1st, 2020. All proposals should include the following:
- Presentation title
- Presentation abstract (250-500 words)
- Presenter email address and affiliation
- A CV (no more than 2-pages)
The organizers strongly encourage images to accompany accepted presentations.
Paper proposals should be submitted to Dr. Mylynka Kilgore Cardona, Program Chair, firstname.lastname@example.org as e-mail attachments, with the subject line: TMS-Houston2020.
Accepted papers will be notified by January 31st, 2020.
